I have always been amazed by the potentials of various materials and the simple wire. I choose to utilize their richness to achieve contrastingly simple solutions as I am a believer in “Less is more”.
This group of work is a result of my interest in ornamentation in personal and public space. ‘Decorating’ habits of people never cease to amaze me and has been the main source of inspiration for this collection. The paper doilies are mass produced to replace (fake) old style laces. I take it a step further and suggest a new ornamentational usage by recontextualizing them on the body. They relate us to ubiquitous elements of a familiar past. The creativity that goes into faking and imitating the past and how I can apply it as body ornamentation is a central theme in my work. Fake materials find a new life when introduced on the body.
Creating contrast and harmony among ideas/meaning, form and color is what keeps me excited about creating and lies at very core of my work.
